4 Tips for Overworked Working Moms

They say that it takes a village to raise a child. What they don’t tell busy, working moms is that the village is just as busy as they are. On top of that, most moms feel like they should do everything themselves or it will look like they can’t handle motherhood, being a wife, or being a working woman.

When you found out you were expecting and took the gender prediction test to find out what your little bundle of joy would be, you had no idea how hard it would be to raise a family and remain a working professional. Luckily, you’re not the only overworked working mom out there, so sit back and relax while you learn some tips from other busy moms

Don’t Forget to put Yourself on Your Priority List

One of the worst things you can do as a new mom is not taking care of yourself. While no mom will put herself ahead of her family, adding your name to your priority list is something that’ll help your family as well. Schedule time to take care of yourself, even if it’s just curling up on the couch and reading a good book after the baby is in bed. The calmer and less stressed you are, the happier your little family will be in the long run.

List the Benefits Your Paycheck Brings to Your Family

Many moms feel guilty about working outside of the home, and wonder if they’re doing the right thing. In reality, women work for the same reason that men do: to take care of their families and give their children a better life than they had. Sit down and make a list of the benefits your paycheck brings to the table for your family.

Remember, it’s not just about the money. It’s about making your own living, not having to depend on anyone else, and even teaching your children that you have to work hard to have the things in life you want and need. There are a host of reasons why moms should work if they choose to, the biggest being the satisfaction it brings.

Come to the Realization that You Aren’t Superwoman

One of the best tips for working moms out there is realizing that you’re not Superwoman and that no other mom is either. In other words, you don’t have to cook three-course homemade meals for your family every night or be the only one to do the dishes, clean the house, or even bathe the baby. If you need help, don’t be afraid to ask for it. You work, so your spouse and anyone else who lives in your home should do their part as well to make sure your home and life run smoothly. Asking for help and assigning tasks does not make you a bad mother, it makes you a smart one.

Lean on a Friend for Support and Venting

There are going to be times when all of it, from the house to the family to the job, seems like too much and becomes overwhelming. It’s times like these that you need a friend outside of your house with a shoulder you can lean on. It’s better to lean on that friend and vent to them than to bottle it up and go off on your spouse. Take the time to make a playdate for yourself with your best friend, whether it’s a night out on the town or just a quick lunch, you’ll be surprised at how much a different take on things can make you feel better about it all.

Every working mom struggles with the daily chaos. It’s what you do with it that matters.
