When I was helping Lauren curate this month's Play themed bundle, my eye immediately fell on the sensory bins book by Sharla Kostelyk. Now, my 20 month old son is a busy body, but there are these moments when you just need to occupy them a little and this seemed like just the thing.
Plus, this type of play is supposed to be really good for kids with sensory issues, and my daughter is hyper sensitive, so maybe this could be the two birds one stone thing.

The book is extremely easy to read and makes you want to dive in there right away. So I did. And was it ever a hit!
I made one simple sensory bin for my son: some pompons, colored rice we made the day before, bottle caps, wine corks, wood stirring sticks, christmas ornaments. Specifically the transversing and stirring got my son excited, and obviously, when my daughter saw what was going on, she wanted some action too... So I made her one too.
The cleanup and feel of the broken rice under your feet isn't the best experience, but the fun they had, and the nearly hour full of play it gave them: totally worth it!!
