Can't Live WIthout a Nursing Bra

breastfeedingcafecarnivalWelcome to The Breastfeeding Cafe Carnival!

When I just set out breastfeeding (can you imagine that's already over 5 years ago?), I had issues finding a nice looking nursing bra. In the meanwhile, I've found my little store that holds just about any brand and I visit there, often.

Over the years I have bought many different brands and I know the ones I like and dislike. (My favorites are Hotmilk and Amoralia) I also know what I'm looking for in a nursing bra.
That said, I don't really use the nursing feature of these bras. I just nurse over them without undoing the clip (because it's faster and when I do open the click, I tend to forget to close them). So I could just buy regular bras, right?

But there's a catch to having worn nursing bras five years in a row, that's that I can't wear regular bras anymore. I have completely lost the ability to wear an underwire.
Aside from the fact that they're not healthy, they just hurt me now.
Actually any bra with wire (underwire or side wire) will hurt and I'll just toss them somewhere never to be used again.

No matter how much I search, I can't seem to find bras without an underwire in my size. Am I doomed to wear nursing bras eternally?

  1. Nursing made me comfortable going bra-less for the first time ever (I'm a busty lady). It's only been 10 months but I already feel your pain about having to wear real bras with underwire.

    What torture devices!

    1. yeah, not wearing them..; they're just WAY too uncomfortable. At least most of those nursing bras are comfy. ANd thanks to writing this post, I got the scent for some regular bras that might be good

  2. good point! wire bras are better avoided for sure...and they totally make no-wire regular bras. I agree that the nursing clips are rarely used, but I kinda like having the option just in case.

    1. I went into a specialist bra shop a year ago and asked about non wire bra's. The shop clerk sorta snapped at me, saying 'they don't maker that kinda thing anymore', so I gave up looking. Happy to see they do so I might be looking for some!!
I agree with having the option. I do sometimes use the clip, especially for the fall asleep nursing sessions. More comfy that way

  3. As we are on our last nursling, the same thought about switching back to non-breastfeeding bras ran through my head! I am hoping that the Elle McPherson brand will have the same bra without nursing access :) Or, I too, will be wearing nursing bras long past the time when our last nursling weans!

  4. As we are weaning one Sweet Pea and I will only have one nursling left, the same thought about life with bras after breastfeeding ran through my head! I am hoping that the Elle McPherson brand I wear has the same bra without opening/clips for nursing access. Otherwise I will be joining you in the ranks of wearing comfy, supportive bras long past the time of their use with a nursling :)
