CD Review: David Ian, Vintage Christmas

Article first published as CD Review: David Ian - Vintage Christmas on Blogcritics.

I am a sucker for christmas, and love just about everything that goes along with it, the coziness, the family gathering, the food, the decorations... and the music. I’ve already composed a big Holiday playlist in my iTunes library.

I was delighted to be able to review a couple of Christmas CD’s this season. The first one I received was David Ian’s Vintage Christmas from Prescott Records.

Canadian born David Ian, who is actually a rock guitarist, produced and arranged this lovely album for the holiday season. He was the lead guitarist with “Church of Rhythm” which later became “Superchick”, a succesful American alternative rock band that obtained a grammy nomination in 2009. Read about Superchick on wikipedia.

This CD offers a couple of remastered classics with a jazzy feel and transports you to a smokey lounge bar in some hip city. A couple of songs are sung by the honey sweet voice of female singer Acacia, some are instrumental and others are interpreted by Andre Miguel Mayo. Acacia Wulfingmakes up half of the Christian singer duo “Tal and Acacia”. Read more about Acacia on Girlsinger.

Featured songs are “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas”, “Silent Night” and “Santa Clause Is Coming to Town”, only to name a few. Soft piano notes and mellow arrangements make the album a delight to listen too which will go perfectly when having friends over for dinner or drinks. The music will go really well with a sparkling glass of champagne and some hors d’oeuvre.

The familiarity of the songs, the careful arrangement and great selection of singing voices make this a must-have holiday CD for jazz lovers.

Pop this in the record player, light a fire and wait for it to snow.
