10 Simple Things To Do That Are Kind On The Environment (rerun)

  1. Turn of the lights when you leave a room. This is fairly simple and straightforward, yet many people still seem to lack this reflex.
  2. Unplug appliances you are not using, don't forget your mobile phone charger. Most modern appliances use power even when switched off
  3. Put a brick or a waterbottle in your toilet's tank. It saves you 1 to 2 liters of water with every flush.
  4. Close the tap while you are soaping, wether you're washing your hands or your hair, in the bath or in the shower.
  5. Make your own cleaning products. Not only is this ecologically sound, it is also much safer for the little ones.
  6. Play board games instead of watching TV. Or storytelling, or puppet theatre... whichever you choose, it will be to the benefit of your family, too.
  7. Diminish your dosage. With most products we use, we are over-dosing anyway. Your toilet, floors and even your hair will be just as clean with a little less.
  8. Read online, instead of buying magazines. It saves you the commute, or postage and a heap of paper. You can start by reading this blog, it's daily :)
  9. Pee in the shower. Seriously! There was even an entire ad campaign dedicated to this in Brasil.
  10. Prefer showers over baths.

  1. In Europe, where utilities are a bazillion times more expensive than in the U.S., the impetus to pay more attention to water, gas and electricity usage is always there. Good list. Very do-able.
